As a practice, we endeavour to promote principles of sound design and sustainability in architecture. This process requires an acute understanding of the site, materiality, quality of construction, the economic viability of the project, and its prospective future use.
Understanding the site is the fundamental starting point for many of our projects. We conduct site surveys, commission topographical surveys, take photos and evaluate the immediate context in terms of scale, character, infrastructure and historical use.
We endeavour to support local economies and minimise energy use in transportation and travel by using local labour and materials where feasible.
The use of local, natural and re-cycled materials is integral to an architecture relating to its context. We take great care in the sourcing, composition and juxtaposition of materials and in the way they relate with the wider setting.
In many cases it is the environmental factors which determine the construction methods we specify. We encourage the latest techniques to be used as well as successful traditional methods with an aim to save energy, water and waste during the different phases of a project.
The involvement of the local community is crucial in the making of a place and is beneficial in generating awareness of newly built projects in their local area.
Building Information Management
Building Information Management has become more and more the fulcrum of conversation in the building industry. We use a variety of CAD software to ensure that architectural designs and specifications are efficient.
As part of the range of drawings we provide, from conceptual design, to detailed construction drawings, we can also simulate environmental qualities such as lighting, and also generate models enabling walkthroughs of designed spaces.
