Rear Extension, Padstow

The surrounding properties around Glynn Road indicate a variety of single storey rear extensions. This proposal for a rear extension has been informed by existing qualities of similar extensions in the vicinity. As part of the proposal, improvements to the existing layout of the house was also explored. This required various sketches and iterations to demonstrate the different possibilities to suit the client’s needs, before finalising the detailed drawings required to demonstrate accordance with current Building Regulations.

The new extension is designed to be in keeping with its surrounding context both in terms of materials and scale. The proposal will be finished in natural slate and ‘red’ brick to match existing roof and walls. We have chosen to opt for an Easy Slate roof for the extension as this will accommodate a shallow roof of 17.5 degrees pitch but allowing a finish of natural slate, an ideal option for carrying out the client’s request to avoid altering the existing window heights on the first floor.
