Old Post Office, Treveighan

The client’s requirements for this project were the refurbishment and renovation of the old village post office, to upgrade it to a modern standard of living.

The exterior was to be kept mainly as original, to retain the character of the old building. Indeed, the only major change to the building is for a set of glazed folding doors, giving natural daylight to the main living area, which is to the rear (south facing) elevation.

Other works to the exterior were purely to upgrade and repair existing elements, such as the roof and dilapidated porch areas.

One of the main features of the refurbishment works was to include underfloor heating to the ground floor (radiators first floor) with a ground source heat pump, which provides sustainable, renewable energy. The high energy efficiency of this system has proved to be very economical and should recoup the outlay within a matter of a few years. This has naturally also improved the property’s CO2 emissions output and will have a beneficial effect to any future sale.

Other works have included hard landscaping to the rear of the property, cutting into the existing sloped garden to give a level patio area, accessed from various parts of the building, leading to the raised garden area.
