Little Water House

This project was for the conversion of an existing redundant stable block to a holiday cottage, specifically suited to accommodate disabled persons and children with special needs, such as Autism. This had been an area the owners found lacking when trying to look for holidays within the West Country themselves.

The stables, being a single storey brick built building, were ideally suited for this type of conversion, as access and all facilities would be required on one level.

Specialist linings were used to allow for accidental impact and underfloor heating used to avoid the risk of touching hot elements.

Specialist kitchen equipment was used to enhance the accessibility for wheelchair users, whilst safety locks ensured children would remain safe too.

A wet en-suite shower room to the main bedroom was fitted for ease of use by wheelchair users.

There is also a level access patio area for use by the occupants.

The project also included detail design work for alterations to an existing entrance drive, which the County Council Highways Authority required upgrading, for gradient and visibility.

Status: building works completed on site.
