The property is a detached Grade II Listed house which was originally constructed in c1710. This property stands on the site of an ancient Cluniac Priory. Little of the original building remains, although some early carved stones have been excavated by previous owners.
The property has undergone various changes and improvements, lately with the addition of the two-story extension in 1994. There is a long range of two-storey outbuildings accompanying the property which are used as storage. It is evident that the house and outbuildings have been affected by a history of unstable ground conditions which has caused settlement of the foundations and structural movement and damage. The scheme proposes the restoration and renovation of the outbuildings as well as alterations to the house including a new link to the barns. As this is a Grade 2 listed building careful consideration has to be taken when ensuring the renovation of the barns as well as the alterations to the house are in keeping with the existing property.
One of the outbuildings will provide accommodation for the grounds keeper with the conversion to a quaint two bedroom semi-detached house, with kitchen and living space.
Another section of the outbuildings that will be converted to living accommodation will be joined onto the main house, incorporating a glazed linking element.

A bat survey has had to be carried out and because bats have been found, emergence surveys have to be carried out in different seasons to comply with planning regulations. Therefore this has delayed the planning application being submitted. However, the scheme is currently being submitted for pre-application discussions with the planning and conservation officers.
A barn conversion and extension with a difference. The barn is sandwiched between a road and the edge of the council's development boundary, meaning a traditional extension would be unacceptable.
