Copperwood Housing Development

The demolition and replacement of an existing house with a new pair of semi-detached houses. The design echoes the original house, whilst meeting the owner’s requirements for a contemporary, modern design with a ‘chalet’ style. Each new house also has a terraces with views overlooking the Fowey estuary.

Facing the road, the building is two storeys, but as the ground slopes steeply down the length of the garden additional rooms have been added at the lower ground level, creating a three storey elevation on the garden side. The top storey is positioned within the roofspace to keep the ridge height down to a level matching the surrounding properties, and the master bedrooms situated on this level have their own private balconies.

Initial consultation with local authority planning raised issues with the site being of special character, but with the help of Lawrence Associates (planning consultants based in Truro) this was resolved and planning permission granted.

Status: Detailed design completed and planning permission obtained. The site has been purchased by a developer.

The property is a detached Grade II Listed house which was originally constructed in c1710. This property stands on the site of an ancient Cluniac Priory. Little of the original building remains, although some early carved stones have been excavated by previous owners.
